About this Site

This website is designed for mature adults who are looking to hike in the mid-Hudson valley. I’ve created it because, when I returned to the Hudson valley after a 30 year absence, I discovered very little information about hikes best suited to 60+ people.

We’ve designed this to be useful not only to people who’ve enjoyed hiking for much of their lives, but also to folks who are just picking up the sport later in life.

Where most hiking guides focus on “long” hikes of 4 hours of more, we focus on shorter hikes, usually under 3 hours, and often under 2. That said we cover contiguous hikes, and suggest ways to combine them for folks wanting an extended outing.

We also develop high quality maps for our readers that can be loaded into a smartphone, and show your location on the trail. As long as you download the map to your phone before starting the hike, these maps work even if you lose an Internet signal. The free app we recommend, Avenza Maps, will also let you plot a track of where you’ve been, drop placemarks of favorite spots, and much more.
